Evan Routhier

Graduate Student

Evan is interested in understanding the release, cycling and fate of mercury in the environment.

Evan’s research focuses on understanding the transport and fate of mercury from illegal gold mining in the Brazilian Amazon and how this mercury impacts methylmercury exposure to humans through fish consumption. He also is investigating soil mercury turnover times through carbon-mercury relationships in soil.

Evan received a BS in both Biochemistry and Environmental Sciences from the University of Wisconsin – Madison where he also researched the sublethal effects of pesticides on model organisms and native Wisconsin fish species. Before starting his Ph.D., he also worked for the United States Geological Survey’s Mercury Research Lab.
