Margaret Lindeman

Postdoctoral Fellow

I am an observational physical oceanographer with a deep curiosity about the role of ice-ocean interactions in polar environments, particularly Kalaallit Nunaat’s (Greenland’s) glacial fjords.

I use ocean observations from ships, moorings, helicopters, and more to understand connections between fjord dynamics, glacier melt, biogeochemical cycling, marine ecosystems, and the large-scale ocean and climate. I am working to strengthen interdisciplinary collaborations and partnerships with local communities, which are crucial to this work. Participating in fieldwork and supporting students in their research are also central to my role in the Straneo Lab.

I earned my PhD from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and my BA from Bowdoin College. I was previously a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Southampton, where I used Argo floats to study ocean drivers of the Maud Rise polynya. Outside of work, you can often find me reading a book or walking up a hill.
