Geology Club

Geology Club, or GeoClub, is a key component of graduate student culture in the Earth and Planetary Sciences department, providing support and friendship throughout your academic experience.

GeoClub organizes and leads academic, social, and career-related events and activities to support our graduate students. Two members of the GeoClub represent EPS students as members of the overarching Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Graduate Student Council.

To help build and foster a community among their fellow graduate students, GeoClub hosts a number of annual events, creating a space where you can have fun with classmates who have a shared interest.

Held in early December, GeoClub hosts a social gathering with skits, music, and food honoring Saint Barbara, the patron saint of early miners.

For one week during the academic year, a visiting scholar is invited by students for an extended stay, during which they give a colloquium, lead workshops, and meet with members of the department. Throughout their visit, students host and entertain the scholar with formal discussions, chalk-talks, meetings, meals with students, and other activities.

Coinciding with Earth Day celebrations, EPS Day is when students plan presentations and activities such as making ice-cream using liquid nitrogen.

Throughout the academic year, students host a series of sporting events including kickball, flag football, and capture-the-flag.

GeoClub will occasionally organize additional group trips to nearby geological sites, ranging from single day to long weekend events.
