Rare Event Simulation in Weather and Climate
My talk will be about applying Rare Event Simulation (RES) tools to generate samples and statistics of rare events in weather and climate. I will describe how RES on a numerically expensive physical model can now be guided by an AI emulator of that model (https://arxiv.org/abs/2510.27066). The rare events produced by RES can then be used to fine tune the emulator to improve performance on the rare event of interest.
