Congratulations to John Holdren for being awarded the 2026 Karl Taylor Compton Medal for Leadership in Physics
Congratulations to John Holdren who has been awarded the 2026 Karl Taylor Compton Medal for Leadership in Physics by the American Institute of Physics (AIP). The Compton Medal recognizes distinguished physicists for exceptional statesmanship in science and is presented biennially; it includes a medal and a $10,000 prize.
AIP notes that John was selected for his scientific leadership in engaging the public and promoting sound governmental policies and key international agreements—contributions that many of us associate particularly with his eight years as President Obama’s Science Advisor and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (2009–2017), as well as his broader career bridging physics, energy, environment, and public service.
