Jacob Bushey
Graduate Student

Jacob’s research focuses on developing novel methods for quantifying methane emissions from oil and gas basins. Recent work focuses on using airborne and satellite remote sensing data, chiefly from the MethaneAIR and MethaneSAT platforms, in combination with atmospheric transport models and statistical inverse methods to constrain emissions.
Jacob is a third-year PhD student in the Wofsy Group at Harvard University studying environmental science and engineering.
He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Virginia, where he received a B.S. in environmental science, a B.A. in chemistry, and a minor in religious studies. He has extensive teaching experience in undergraduate-level environmental science and engineering courses (EPS50, EPS101, ESE6) and received an honorable mention for the NSF GRFP.
Beyond his current research, he’s interested in how people consider contemporary environmental issues through different ethical and religious lenses and the role of research in science policy and science communication.
